A Path Off the Mountain Pass
   A path cuts through the wild grasses of the plateau here, leading from
the road to the east to the cliffs overlooking the sea coast towards the
the west. The path has been worn by the tread of many feet, and there are
wagon tracks in the dirt. Far to the east, beyond the road, a large patch of
woods can still be seen. Far in the distance, the crashing of waves can be
heard.

A Bend in the Trail
   The trail curves from the east towards the north here. The faint
sounds of sea gulls can be heard from the sea coast far to the west.
On the southern side of the trail, there is a patch of grass that has
been disturbed, like someone has come from that direction and tried to
hide their tracks. Further on towards the south, the remains of an
abandoned wagon are hidden the grass.

Path Towards the Coast
   The path turns again, heading south and then east back to the road,
and westward towards the cliffs overlooking the sea coast. The smell
of the sea air gets stronger as the path continues towards the coast,
and the cries of the sea gulls are louder as well. The grasses of the
plateau have grown high on the sides of the path, at least three or
four feet. Occasionally the sounds of a small animal scurrying through
the grass can be heard.

The Path to the Coast
   The path through the grass leads westward to the cliffs overlooking
the Sea Coast. To the east, the path continues for some distance towards
the High Road. Huge, towering pillars of rock can be seen jutting out
of the sea to the west, stabbing into the air like skeletal fingers.
The sound of waves crashing into these pillars and into the cliffs has
become quite clear, and an osprey can be seen soaring through the air
to the southwest, searching for prey.

The Edge of the Cliff
   The path from the High Road ends here at the edge of the cliff. Far
below a beach can be seen next to the cliff. A stiff breeze blows in
from the sea, bringing with it the cries of sea gulls looking for food.
To the north and south, the plateau stretches out as far as your eyes
can see. Far along the path to the east lies the High Road, and a crude
ramp leads down the side of the cliff.

The Wide Ledge
   A narrow ledge on the side of the cliff has been widened by someone
to provide a means to get to the beach at the bottom of the cliff. The
side of the cliff has been dug out to provide the extra room needed for
two people to be able to walk side by side safely on the ledge. The
ledge slopes downwards as it continues to the north. Carved into the
side of the cliff is a crude ramp leading to the top of the cliff.

   The wide ledge continues on its way down the side of the cliff. Sea
Gulls can be seen flying nearby, and several have made nests in holes
in the side of the cliff. Looking at the side of the cliff, the marks
made during the widening of the ledge are clearly visible. The work is
not the best quality, but is good enough to make traveling on the ledge
possible. The ledge has been made wide enough so that even a small cart
could be wheeled along it.

A Narrow Ledge
   The ledge becomes narrower here, probably the rest of the ledge to
the north was this small until it was made wider by digging into the
cliff-side. Care must be taken when walking here, it would be easy to
fall over the edge and down to the beach. From above the sounds of some
large birds can be heard. There are hand-holds in the cliff that could
be used to climb up the side of the cliff.

The End of the Wide Ledge
   The ledge comes to an end here, leading into a cave in the side of
the cliff to the east. There is a set of hand-holds carved into the rock
at the edge of the ledge that seem to lead down to another ledge some
40 feet below. The beach below can be seen clearly, stretching to the
north and south. In the distance to the north, there appears to be a
large ship very close to the beach.

The Lower Ledge
   This ledge is about 3 feet wide, and slopes downward towards the
south, eventually leading to the beach. Looking out towards the beach,
a ship can be seen near the beach to the northwest. The beach extends
a long way to the north and south. There are several holes in the side
of the cliff near the ledge, and sea gulls have built nests in many of
them. There are hand-holds carved into the side of the cliff that could
be used to climb to the ledge above.

The Lower Ledge
   The ledge continues to slope downwards as it leads to the south. The
beach extends to the north and south about forty feet below the ledge.
The cries of the many sea gulls can be heard, mixing with the sounds of
the surf from the beach. Looking off to the west, the small dot of a
ship heading to Verzanan can be seen far in the distance. The ledge
leads to the north and south.

The Lower Ledge
   The lower ledge comes to an end here, and there is a set of stairs
carved into the side of the cliff leading down to the beach twenty feet
below. Back towards the north, the ledge slants upwards, heading back
up the side of the cliff.

At the Base of the Cliff
   A beach stretches to the north and south here at the base of the cliff.
In the distance to the north, a wrecked ship can be seen in the water not
far from the beach. Beyond the ship, the beach curves towards the west,
following the cliff. There are tracks in the sand that lead from the path
up the side of the cliff, heading off towards the south.

On the Beach
   The sand of the beach is covered with small pebbles and bright sea
shells. The pleasant sound of the sea is occasionally interrupted by
the cry of the sea gulls that inhabit the cliff, circling overhead
looking for food. To the east, the cliff towers above the beach, and
the sea slowly claws its way up the beach to the west. The tracks
that led in from the north vanish without a trace a short distance to
the south.

On the Beach Before a Cave
   The tracks that led here from the north have disappeared into thin
air. The sand here is pristine except for the tracks left by the many
crabs that roam the beach looking for food. Off to the west, several
pillars of rock jut up from the sea, like the fingers of a titan reaching
for the sky. There is an opening in the cliff wall to the east, leading
into one of the numerous small caves that line the cliffs in this region.
The beach continues to the north and south.

In a Small Cave
   This cave is approximately twenty feet in diameter, and the ceiling is
ten feet high. At one time, the sea must have reached the cliff here, and
the sea slowly eroded a weak point in the cliff wall to form this cave. The
sand bears the marks of the many small sea creatures that have scavenged
this cave for food, and anything that wa once in this cave has long since
been removed. To the west, the cave leads back out to the beach.

Entrance to the Bandit Hideout
   This large tunnel seems to go deep into the side of the cliff. Light
spills into the tunnel here from further ahead to the east. Movement
can be seen in the direction of the light, and the sounds of people
talking echo from the east as well. The sand and pebbles that make up
the floor here show the tread of many feet, giving the impression that
several people have been this way recently. Attached to the back of the
door is a string that runs along the ceiling of the tunnel towards the
east.

The Guard Post
   The tunnel leads further into the cliff here, becoming wider at this
point. There is a small bell hanging on the northern wall, and attached
to it is a string that runs back down the tunnel to the west. This part
of the tunnel is used by the bandits to keep intruders out of their home.
There is a small pit in the north side of the room where the guards can
build a fire on the cold nights. There is a large glowing disk hanging
from the ceiling that gives off enough light for the guards to see in
this room, as well as further down the tunnel towards the entrance.

A Small Cave
   The entrance tunnel opens out into a small cave. There is a glowing
disk hanging from the ceiling to provide light. The sandy floor of the
tunnel gives way to a stone floor in this cave. The tracks from the east
split here, with the majority heading toward an opening in the north end
of the cave, and with a small number leading towards an opening in the
eastern part of the cave. The sounds of people talking and the smell of
food wafts in from the opening to the north.

A Long Corridor
   A long corridor leads from north to south here. This corridor looks
to have been a natural tunnel that has been widened to allow it to be used
by the bandits. The excavation work was apparently done with haste being
the most important factor, because the workmanship is bad enough to make
a dwarf curse whoever carved out this hallway.

A Branch in the Corridor
   The corridor continues its north-south run here, and an opening
branches off to the east.The corridor is approximately six feet tall,
but it is very uneven, in some places dipping several feet, making any
tall people stoop over. The corridor slants upward slightly as it
continues to the north. From the north comes the sound of voices, and
occasionally a shout or two echoes down the corridor.

Before the Huge Cave
   The corridor comes to an end here, opening up into a gigantic cave
to the north. The sounds of conversation drift into the corridor from
the cave, just loud enough to be heard but not understood. The rough
hewn corridor walls slowly give way to the naturally formed walls of
cave that been formed through centuries of erosion. The corridor leads
back to the south, heading towards the faint smell of cooking food.

In a Large Cave
   A quick glance around shows that this cave is huge. The ceiling is at
least twenty-five feet high, and the cave is one-hundred feet wide by one-
hundred fifty feet long. This part of the cave is used by some of the
bandits as sleeping quarters. There are blankets and bundles of clothing
used as pillows all about the floor. Other than the clothing, there are
no personal belongings in evidence. The only thing else in this part of
the cave is the remains of some of the bandits meals, fish bones and the
like. The cave continues to the north and east.

In a Large Cave
   This part of the cave must be used by some of the tougher bandits.
There is a fire burning in a fire pit in the center of this area, and
its warmth makes it much more comfortable in this part of the cave. The
smoke from the fire drifts over to a large hole in the ceiling in the
corner of the cave, where it apparently makes its way out of the cave.
Light from the glowing disk suspended from a cable in the ceiling reflects
off a set of metal rungs set into the wall below the hole. The hole appears
large enough for a person to fit through, but the light shining into the
hole is swallowed up by the darkness after a few feet. The rest of the cave
can be seen to the east and south.

In a Large Cave
   More blankets are strewn about the floor in this part of the cave.
Even though the blankets are not cramped together, the cave is quite
large, and the bandit gang must have at least thirty or more people in
it, judging by the number of blankets in the cave. Trash litters the sand
all around, mostly bones and shells from the bandit's meals. A stiff breeze
blows toward the western end of the cave, stirring the cool, damp air of
the cave, making it quite chilly. A corridor leads off to the east, and small
fires can be seen in the cave to the west and south.

A Short Corridor
   This short corridor has been carved out of the rock of the cliff by
some crude but effective tools. The rough walls reflect the light from
the disk hanging from the ceiling in unusual patterns, brightly lighting
some of the corridor while leaving some of it cloaked in shadow. A draft
carries the scent of food into the corridor from the west. The corridor
continues to the east, and there is a doorway in the south wall.

Room Above the Shaft
   This room off the tunnel to the west contains a small opening in the
floor in the northeast corner. The opening appears to be the beginning
of a shaft leading down deeper into the bandit complex. Rungs can be
seen in the side of the shaft starting just below the floor, forming a
ladder leading down into the dim shaft. There is a glowing disk hanging
from the ceiling shining down into the shaft, but there is not enough
light to see the bottom of the shaft.

A Long Shaft
   The inside of the shaft is very cramped, with barely enough room for
a person to move their arms and legs to climb the ladder. The iron rungs
set into the wall feel very securely anchored, and they have ridges to
make it them easier to grip. Below, the bottom of the shaft can just be
made out in the dim light coming from above.
This area seems to be exceptionally narrow!

The Bottom of the Shaft
   While many of the rooms above were natural caves, this room seems to
have been dug out of the surrounding rock. There is just enough light
coming from the top of the shaft to make out the room. An alcove just
big enough for one person to stand in is carved into the wall to the
south. The faint sound of crashing waves can be heard coming from the
north. There is an opening to the east, and a ladder made of iron rungs
is mounted on the western wall.
