   The massive palisade bends sharply here, following the natural contours
of the motte.  Designed to give an impressive advantage by virtue of height
the walls of the palisade are over twenty-five feet high.  The platforms
above are bustling with activity as guards shuffle about their daily duties
and walk their patrol rounds.

   The northern tower is the most impressive of all of the palisade
structures, having been thought to be the primary point of attack by a
defender should they attempt to bypass the bailey.  The massive stonework
has been reinforced by iron beams as thick as tree trunks, and the slight
glow of magic outlines the tower walls.

   This massive tower is capped by a huge platform holding several war
engines, among them mangonels, catapults and ballistas.  Piles of ammunition
nearby are ready in case heavy firing breaks out, and a heavy block and
tackle is available for for lifting more if the need arises.  The weapons
are chocked in place, but are ready to roll into position.

   The two hallways on the second story of the keep join here, at a very
well traveled intersection with the keep.  The soldiers upon their daily
rounds to the palisades must pass through here or else leave the keep and
travel to one of the towers to access the platforms, and the Duke himself
comes though each morning and night on his way to and from his bed chamber.

Halfway Up a Finely Crafted Spiral Staircase
   The finely made stone staircase pauses at the landing for the second
floor before continuing to wind up into the heights of the keep.  The
exquisite stonework is detailed with intricate scrollwork, and the railing
is plated in either gold or a very close substitute.  A plush red carpet
has been laid upon the steps of the wide stairway.

A Finely Crafted Spiral Staircase in the Foyer of the Keep
   The large foyer of the keep is centered around a large spiral staircase
rising into the heights of the structure.  The finely crafted stairway is
made of the finest stonework, and a gilded rail leads elegantly around the
stairs.  Thick red carpeting covers each stair, and elegant murals wrap
around the walls of the room.

A Dusty Hallway in the Soldier's Wing of the Keep
   This dirty hallway connects the main area of the keep to the soldiers'
wing.  Due to the heavy volume of foot traffic from warriors going to and
from their posts everyday quite a bit of dirt and muck has accumulated.
The hall stretches from the officer quarters past the enlisted men's room
finally ending at the shrine to the god of battle.

   The officers' room is immaculately clean.  The solid oaken bunks are all
made neatly, and not a speck of dust is visible.  The weapons and clothing
of off-duty officers are stacked neatly by the wall and shining pieces of
armor hang from pegs upon the wall.  Several different marks of heraldry
are mounted on the walls, as some of the officers come from the nobility.
