Before a Small Tent
   This is a small ravine in the path here, but not serious
enough to affect travel.  Just on the other side of the small
ditch is a tent, alone in the middle of the forest, all this
way from the main road and the village.  There is a strong,
steady ray of light streaming out from the inside of the tent.
The patrols from Desolate don't come up this far north, so the
area is in near complete isolation.

Inside a Small Tent
   This tent is devoid of anything other than a single figure,
standing near the entrance, and sealed off spiraling stair
case that leads down into the earth.  There is a small lantern
hanging from the ceiling of the tent, allowing just enough
light to illuminate it during the night.  The figure standing
here seems to be waiting for something, and though he greets
all who enter, he seems impatient as if expecting something
or someone else.  The shadows from the lantern give the tent a
rather creepy feeling.

Before a Small Tent
   This is a small ravine in the path here, but not serious

direction.  The abundance of civilization seems much further than
it actually is here, as the serenity of the forest becomes quite
apparent.  The voices of the loggers to the south have become
muffled by the sounds of local wildlife. Numerous rocks have been
piled up over on the western edge of the trail.

A Grove of Huge Oaks
   The forest changes from the multitude of different types of trees
here to an area soley of giant oaks, larger than even the tallest redwood
or evergreen in this forest.  Though the change in the forest doesn't
go on for very long, there is enough wood just within the oak trees
here to build a town with, like Desolate most likely was.  A young
logger is leaning up against one the trees here, obviously tired from
the days work, but still with enough energy to wave hello to travellers
and greet them kindly.  There is a pile of fresh lumber off to the side
of the path that he must have just cut today.

A Grove of Huge Oaks
   The forest changes from the multitude of different types of trees
here to an area soley of giant oaks, larger than even the tallest redwood
or evergreen in this forest.  Though the change in the forest doesn't
go on for very long, there is enough wood just within the oak trees
here to build a town with, like Desolate most likely was. A small
Halfling wanders the area here, observing the way the loggers of
Desolate do their work, in hopes to bring some new techniques back
with him to Woodseer.  Many trees have been freshly cut here, maybe
a day or two ago, and he is interested in seeing just how they have
been chopped down.   The grove of oaks continues to the north, and
there is a small log cabin just to the east.

A Forest Trail Before a Cabin
   The trail through the forest continues here and takes a turn
to the west where a huge grove of oak trees can be seen towering
above the already high tree line.   A small, wood cabin lies just
to the north here, acting as a residence for several of the loggers
of the region.   A few non-local loggers wander around this part
of the forest, observing the techniques of the Desolate lumberjacks
in hopes of learning something new.  The trail leads back to the
main road just a short distance to the south.

A Trail Through the Forest
   This trail leads north from the main gravel road into the forest
itself.  Though not as important a pathway as the main road, this
trail is used often by the loggers of the village as it leads not
far off to a large grove of mighty oak trees, Desolate's most
valued lumber.

A Turn in the Road
   The road takes a turn to the east here, and straight towards
the village itself, which can now be seen rising up from the forest
not that far off.  In contrast to the hike over the hill, this
part of the road is quite lively, full of travellers, citizens of
Desolate, and the local patrol militia.  To the north a trail
begins leading into the forest, though it doesn't appear to be
as well used at the gravel road one is currently on, it still
seems quite worn with traffic.

   The road continues to run east here, towards the village.  The
forest remains dense and thick on either side, making it difficult
to determine what all exactly is around one.  Occasionally patrol
guards and citizens of the village can be seen walking about the
area, as well as the usual wildlife that has ventured out from
the forest.  The turn in the road lies just to the west, Desolate
is not far off in the east.

The Road to Desolate
   The road ends just east of here, before the main gates of Desolate.
The forest continues to spread out all around one, and it is quite
difficult to see anything beyond the road.  Two men stand here,
causing quite a stir as they argue loudly about something.  The
village guard towers can be seen from here, rising up above the tree
line.

The Gates of Desolate
   Here lie the gates to the fine village of Desolate.  Just above
the gates are a pair of watch towers that rise up just above the
treeline of the forest and serve both as archery posts and lookout
stations.  The gates, like the wall and the majority of the village
itself is all made from oak timber, thick strong wood, perfect
for buildings.  There is a sign just above the gates that reads:
              No Magic Allowed Within City Proper.
   One would expect that the several guards on post here at the gates
would most likely enforce the law of the sign.  North and South lead
up to the watch towers, while east leads into the village itself.

The Fountain of Desolate
   Here lies the central fountain of Desolate.  It acts as a sort
of landmark for those new to the city, and for those who have been
at the Lustful Logger too long and are having a hard time finding
their way home.  The log wall that is built around the city is
just to east, and runs parallel the road that runs north and south
from here.  Main Street leads back to the gates, heading to the
west.  The fountain's water flows crisp and clean here, providing
drinking water to the entire population.  The designs etched on the
marble seem to be of elven origin.
