A Small Stream
   Through the fog, the ground suddenly gives way to a shallow gully a
few feet deep. Down the middle of the gully runs a small stream only a
few feet deep. Probably run off from the snowy forests to the north,
the stream is fairly clear and looks to be only a couple of feet deep
at this point. Now and again, a small piece of ice floats down the
stream toward the south. The roots of the surrounding forest often
protrude from the stream banks, providing good hand holds for anyone
climbing down to the stream itself or up its banks.

A Small Murky Stream
   Through the dense fog, the ground suddenly gives way to a shallow
gully two or three feet deep. Down the middle of the gully runs a small
stream only a few feet wide. Mud and leaves make the stream murky and
its depth is not determinable without probing. The stream flows
sluggishly from north to south before it turns to the east to follow a
bend in the stream. Now and again, a small bit of ice floats
downstream, accompanying the leaves and branches on the water. Roots of
the huge forest trees often protrude from the stream's banks and
provide good hand holds for anyone climbing down to the stream itself or
up the banks.

   The forest is covered in thick fog making it difficult to see more
than a few feet in any direction except when the wind blows to
temporarily billow the fog about. During one gust of wind, a small hut
can briefly be seen to the north. Huge pale grey trees outline
themselves against the backdrop of the white fog like gigantic
guardians of the forest. The whole place is damp, spooky, and cold.
It's the kind of place even the most hardy adventurer would like to
leave as soon as possible. The forest continues to the east, while a
small stream can be seen to the west and the south.

fog and scraggly trees opens up. The wind blows through the trees
making their branches rub together in a sound which sends shivers down
the spine. Little patches of brush grow alongside the path, each of
them clinging to a precarious existence in the cold.

it very slippery and impossible to climb without spikes or carved
footholds. An imposing wall of wooden stakes blocks passage to the east
except where the fallen tree has smashed a breech. One could use the
tree to walk over the wall, avoiding the splintered wreckage, if a way
to climb onto it could be found. To the west lies the fog of the
scraggly forest. Little patches of brush grow alongside the path, each
of them clinging to a precarious existence in the cold. Scattered about
the path are splitters of the smashed wooden wall.

Within the Misty Forests
   The mist of fog still fills the air, sending its damp chill over the
land. Wind howls through the forest and it is really starting to get
cold. Dominating this patch of forest is a HUGE fallen tree blocking
the way south. However, it looks as though some previous explorer or
tradesman was undaunted as there are several hand and foot holds
painstakingly carved into the tree trunk which should allow for climbing
up onto the rounded trunk. To the east, a trail can be made out and in
the other directions there is just more forest.
