Outside the Gates of Mitashi, the Jade City
Mitashi is a wide, sprawling city surrounded by high walls of red brick
and gray mortar. The walls are fifteen feet in height and wide enough so
that guards can easily keep watch over the countryside by walking along
the top. At equal intervals around the capital city of the Jade Empire,
wooden towers rise up above the walls, providing an even higher perch
for the vigilant Imperial Guardsmen. The city gates are made of solid
blue-steel and swing easily on well-oiled hinges. Painted in the middle
of the gates is the symbol of the Jade Empire, a bengal tiger crouching
as it moves through a field of reeds.

Inside the Gates of Mitashi
This area stands just inside the solid city walls and acts as a checkpoint
for traffic entering and leaving the city. Guards dressed in the greens
and blues of the Imperial Guard patrol the vicinity, searching for any signs
of trouble. More guards stand atop the red brick walls, each carrying a
shortbow to deal with threats on the ground. The main city road continues
to head directly south into the heart of the city and smaller paths
branch off to the west and east, following the interior of the city walls.

An Intersection of The Jade Highway and the Path of Bronze
The wide Jade Highway meets here with a smaller road called the Path of
Bronze. Acting mostly as a trafficway for people moving from this main road
to a nearby residential district, the Path of Bronze is made from patchwork
cobblestones of various shades of browns and tans. The upkeep on the
smaller path is just as good as that on the Jade Highway. It leads
to the west into the residential district and east into a large marketplace.

The Jade Highway
This wide road is made of flat tan stones, each an exact replica of one
another. The stones are rectangular, roughly four inches wide and eight
inches long and are made from a mix of sand and clay. The roads are
immaculately maintained. No cracks, holes, or chips can be seen anywhere
on the entire stretch of the highway. The road is called the Jade Highway
because of where it leads: the Palace of the Heavens, and certainly
not because of its coloration.

Path of Flowers
This exceptionally well-maintained path leads past all the noble houses
of the Empire's great Clans. Each of the six major families has a large
piece of land along the Path of Flowers, each identical in size with a
single identical struture. Only the exterior coloring of the houses are
allowed to vary, per an Imperial decree created to insure that each of the
Clans was "equal" in stature in the Jade City.
The nobles of the Clans have abused the ability to paint their complexes
and the Path of Flowers has become the Path of Garish Eyesores. Each of the
Clan houses has been splashed with horrendous amounts of bright color, some
decorated with almost unrecognizable impressionistist paintings of the
animal their Clan is named for, while others seem content just to mix and
match contrasting hues in a wildly chaotic design. In their attemps to outdo
one another, the Clan nobles have taken the natural beauty of the
architecture of the buildings and destroyed it completely.
