The Plane of Avernus in the Nine Hells
An odd plane of darkness, consisting of rocky crags and hillocks,
extends in every direction. Poisonous vegetation and twisted devils hide
throughout the bare rock that extends in every direction. Devils abound
here, though not neccessarily what one would expect. A few of the devils
actually greet travelers, others laugh, and still more simply attack
travelers, much to the amusement of other devils in the area. The devils
themselves, as well as this entire area, have an unreal quality. An
invisible barrier to the north prevents travel further into that part of
hell but the way to the south, east, and west are all clear.

the north would appear to be climbable but some sort of transparent barrier
prevents any travel in that direction. A second barrier to the south
prevents travel into another area of this hell that has a strange red door
standing in mid-air. Bare rock can be traveled to the east and west and a
small opening leads downard into a dark home of some sort.
