A Great Mushroom Forest
   Damp humid air laden with the smells of growth and decay
assaults the senses in this massive underground cavern.
Stretching as far as the eye can see is a massive forest of fungi
of all types of mushrooms, many glowing a soft green, various
others emit shades of purple.  Small animals can be seen treading
there way through the trunklike stalks of some of the biggest
fungi, searching the forest for food.  The great mushroom forest
extends in all directions, filling this immense cavern.

A Great Mushroom Forest
   Great treelike mushrooms sprout wildly in the rich nutrient
filled soil of this massive underground cavern.  The numerous
large and small fungi spread like a great forest throughout the
cavern, announcing their presence by the soft green and purple
glow that many of them emit. A few strange animals can be seen
meandering through the forest, nibbling on bits of mushrooms that
they find to their liking.  Humid, thick air fills the cavern
from some underground source of water which is not visible amid
the tangle of fungi.  The forest of mushrooms continues to the
south and west, with a large pile of rocks visible to the west.

A Large Rock Pile
   A pile of strewn boulders and rocks collects under a large
opening in the cavern wall here.  The tear in the wall is about
ten feet off the ground, and can be reached by scrambling up the
nearby boulders.  A deep greenish glow reflects off the stony
surface of the rocks, emenating from the cavern which stretches
to the east and south.  Tendrils of white fungal matter snake
through the rock, slowly reducing it to a fine dirt; the air here
is particularly dry and humid and smells of mushrooms.

A Bore Through The Cavern Wall
   The long broad canyon that snakes its way across the caverns
of Ixarkon has tapered greatly to a single great crack in the
cavern walls only about five feet in diameter.  A musty odor
fills the damp, humid air; the ground all about feels damp and
spongy.  A faint glow can be seen on the other side of the crack,
which heads downward at a sharp angle.  The canyon heads back to
the west, toward the settlement of the illithids.

A Tight, Narrow Canyon
   The canyon walls taper down quickly as the cavern ceiling high
above plunges down.  The canyon here seems little more than a
wide tunnel through the rock, strewn with dust and dirt.  About
ten feet across, the canyon here is surprisingly damp, with the
soft dirt of the ground threatining to turn to a muddy morass
with any more precipitation.  The canyon heads up and broadens
greatly up above; to the east the canyon bores through the cavern
walls.

A Broad Twisting Canyon
   A long narrow cavern heading out of the caverns of Ixarkon
flattens out slightly and becomes much broader here.  The steep
high walls of canyon still shelter the canyon from the rest of
the immense cavern, hiding from sight the impressive illithid
city. A great slab of rock rises in the middle of the canyon
here, splitting it off into two forks, one of which leads north
off from the main body of the canyon.  The canyon slopes down
rather steeply as it heads farther east; the cavern ceiling far
above seems to slope down lower over there.

A Small Dark Cave
   A small cave has been revealed by past geologic forces; the
canyon walls have crumbled and laid bare this small hollow in the
walls.  Cracks run like jagged lightning bolts all around the
walls of the confined cave, one peculiar set of bolts vaguely
resembles the shape of a small door.  An occasional illithid
furtively ducks its head into the small cave and seems to
disappear into its murky depths.  The only apparent exit is back
out to the canyon north of here.

interior of the mansion has been lavishly decorated to reflect
the latest styles popular in Ixarkon.  The owner of the mansion
seems particularly fond of frescoes which are plastere all about
the walls of this building.  Entrance to further parts of the
mansion seem to be barred by some magical force that only the
owner knows how to undo.  A granite arch marks the entrance of
the mansion, which leads out to the north.

A Long Twisting Canyon
   A long twisting canyon snakes its way through the eastern
portion of the caverns housing the thriving illithid settlement
of Ixarkon. Flanked by walls nearly a hundred feet high, the
canyon is relatively isolated from the rest of the city.
Impressive mansions constructed by many of the city's elite dot
the canyon; many are surrounded by impressive gardens, some by
deadly looking gates.  The canyon is relatively free of traffic
except for the slaves that can be seen tending to the estates,
and the occasional illithid making his way westward to the heart
of the city.  The canyon bends here, continuing to the north and
east.

sprawling bazaar that is the market of Ixarkon.  Exotic wares
captured in far off raids sell alongside more mundane goods such
as food and clothing.  Nearly as numerous in the markets as the
illithids are slaves from nearly every race imaginable; a few
drow and ogre slaves can be seen being led through the crowd not
to mention the more common goblin slaves.  More terrifying than
the powerful illithids, massive brain golems police the markets
ensuring that nothing goes amiss.  These brute constructs of the
illithid's are extremely powerful, and as a consequence nothing
much ever goes wrong in Ixarkon.  To the north, south and west
the sprawling markets continue; to the east crowd dies down it.

The Markets of Ixarkon
   A vast array of illithids come and go in the busy market
district of the city.  Well-dressed illithids walk among the
merchants stalls choosing between elegant robes and numerous
small trinkets.  Many slaves of all races mix among their
illithid masters, many no doubt being led for sale to the auction
blocks nearby.  A few hulking brain golems wander throughout the
district making sure that order is kept throughout the city.  The
markets continue to the east and south.  As compared to other
cities in the underworld, Ixarkon is a rather quiet city, the
communication amid the throng of illithid taking place
psionically. The markets continue to the west and north; to the
east an illithid has marked off a section of the cavern as his
own to hawk his wares.

The Great Auction Blocks of Ixarkon
   The gathering throng of illithids concentrates around the
large stone platform set in the middle of the great market
district of the city. Slaves of innumerable races are led up a
short series of steps atop the platform, and silently bid on by
the surrounding throng.  A few of the slaves are then led off by
their new owners, whether for hard labor or a light snack is
unknown.  The few slaves that aren't bid on are either led back
to the city's plantations or sold to some of the city's food
merchants in private auctions.  The markets of the city surround
the auction block in all directions; to the north a crowd of
illithids seem to be wagering on a contest of some sorts.

the canyon shelter the numerous mansions that dot the cavern; the
number of estates seems to trickle down this far east, with none
visible east of here.  The massive mansions house the upper
echelon of the cities merchantry as well as some of the elders
who run the city in accordance with the Elder Brain.  Slaves
attend to the lavish mansion in the otherwise peaceful canyon;
there is none of the bustling activity of the markets or
herdlands near these bastions of wealth.  The canyon continues to
the west and east here, and one of the mansions lies open to the
south.

flattens out slightly and becomes much broader here.  The steep
high walls of canyon still shelter the canyon from the rest of
the immense cavern, hiding from sight the impressive illithid
city.  The canyon wall south of here has crumble away slightly,
revealing a small cave.  A few illithid look furtively around and
enter the cave; other than these travelers the canyon here is
relatively deserted as none of the fabulous mansions of the city
can be found this far east.  The canyon continues to the east and
west here.

A Broad Twisting Canyon

city. A great slab of rock rises in the middle of the canyon
here, splitting it off into two forks, one of which leads north
off from the main body of the canyon.  The canyon slopes down
rather steeply as it heads farther east; the cavern ceiling far
above seems to slope down lower over there.

A Tight, Narrow Canyon
   The canyon walls taper down quickly as the cavern ceiling high
above plunges down.  The canyon here seems little more than a
wide tunnel through the rock, strewn with dust and dirt.  About
ten feet across, the canyon here is surprisingly damp, with the
soft dirt of the ground threatining to turn to a muddy morass
with any more precipitation.  The canyon heads up and broadens
greatly up above; to the east the canyon bores through the cavern
walls.

A Bore Through The Cavern Wall
   The long broad canyon that snakes its way across the caverns
of Ixarkon has tapered greatly to a single great crack in the
cavern walls only about five feet in diameter.  A musty odor
fills the damp, humid air; the ground all about feels damp and
spongy.  A faint glow can be seen on the other side of the crack,
which heads downward at a sharp angle.  The canyon heads back to
the west, toward the settlement of the illithids.

   A pile of strewn boulders and rocks collects under a large
opening in the cavern wall here.  The tear in the wall is about
ten feet off the ground, and can be reached by scrambling up the
nearby boulders.  A deep greenish glow reflects off the stony
surface of the rocks, emenating from the cavern which stretches
to the east and south.  Tendrils of white fungal matter snake
through the rock, slowly reducing it to a fine dirt; the air here
is particularly dry and humid and smells of mushrooms.

cavern housing this underground forest glows a soft green glow,
which emenates from a particular species of fungi spread rampant
throughout the caverns.  The humid air seems thick and heavy, and
provides an idle environment for the mushrooms to thrive.  The
great forest spreads to the north, east, and south here.

A Narrow Rock-Strewn Canyon
   Walls nearly a hundred feet high loom imposingly over this
narrow twisting canyon.  The rocky strewn floor proves hard to
travel over as many sharp rocks seem to jut from every space of
ground not covered by some massive boulder.  The canyon seems
unearthly quiet as no sounds of animals or any other occupants
can be heard echoing off the stone walls.  The narrow canyon
leads north here, and to the south connects to a much broader
canyon.
