A Fading Pathway
A narrow pathway here leads south through the fog of a dense forest,
To the north the trail quickly disappears as the forest thins and the
frozen expanses of the tundra begin in the distance. A wall of wooden
posts driven deep into the ground lies to the east. Each section of the
wall is several rows deep, with each row composed of huge tree trunks
placed within inches of each other -a strong barrier indeed. Off to the
west looms a dark and foggy forest filled with large grey-colored
trees. A gust of wind blows down from the north suddenly, ripping
through the trees and causing some distant creature to howl is
disapproval. Then, all is quiet.

Within the Misty Forest
The huge trees of the misty wood are beginning to thin some and
return to a more normal size. Still of a pale grey hue, the trees look
weak and barely able to survive the colder climate. To the north, the
trees begin to see snow among their branches before thinning completely
into the northern tundra in the distance. Fog enshrouds the trees here
and to the south in a thick blanket of dampness and chill. From the
cover of the fog, howls can be heard deeper in the wood. Off to the
east a trail can be seen through the fog, while in all other directions
the forest continues.

The forest is covered in thick fog making it difficult to see more
than a few feet in any direction except when the wind blows to
temporarily billow the fog about. Huge trees are outlined against the
backdrop of fog like silent sentinels to the dangers of the forest.
Every once in a while, a howl can be heard from deeper within the
forest. The whole place is damp, spooky, and cold..the kind of place
even the most hardy adventurer would like to leave as soon as possible.
Ahh, the desire for a warm fire and a nice cozy bed. The forest
continues on in all directions except the east, where a path can just
be seen through the envelope of fog.

land. Wind howls through the forest and it is really starting to get
cold. Dominating this patch of forest is a HUGE fallen tree blocking
the way south. However, it looks as though some previous explorer or
tradesman was undaunted as there are several hand and foot holds
painstakingly carved into the tree trunk which should allow for climbing
up onto the rounded trunk. To the east, a trail can be made out and in
the other directions there is just more forest.

make the bark very hazardous to climb without the aid of spikes or

about in a swirl of mist. Travel through the forest is possible to the
north, east and west.

Base of a Fallen Tree
The mist of fog still fills the air, sending its damp chill over the
land. Wind howls through the forest and it is starting to get really
cold. In this section of forest, a HUGE tree has fallen, pulling up
enough dirt to create a small crater in the forest floor. Tendrils of
roots flail about in the wind from the base of the tree. Up the roots
to the east is the tree trunk, a good twenty feet in the air while to
the south is a small stream. In all other directions, the misty forest
continues.

the stream's banks and provide good hand holds for anyone climbing down
to the stream itself or up the banks.

Under the Windfall
Under the windfall, the ground has been scraped away to form a
hollow of sorts. With the water of the stream making the ground soggy
the place is uncomfortable at best to the humanoid mind. Yet, something
obviously lairs in this dreary place. Through the fog which seeps into
the hollow, a litter of bones can be seen half buried in the mire of
the damp ground. Even if the fog were twenty times thicker, the stink
of rotting flesh would give away the presence of the corpses under the
mud. Seems like a place not to stay or even visit.
